- Interview conducted by Dana Miller on May 25, 2023. Originally from Bloomington, Sybil Stern Mervis settled in Danville as an adult. Mervis became an active member of the Jewish community in Danville, participating in both synagogue- and community-based organizations and initiatives. She has served as the president of Congregation Anshe Knesset Israel, the chairman of the Jewish Section of Springhill Cemetery, and a member of the Danville Chapter of Hadassah, among others. Mervis has also performed research on and collected materials related to the area's Jewish communities. In this inteview, she discussed the Jewish communities of Bloomington and Danville, her involvement in faith-based and community organizations, and her efforts to preserve central Illinois' Jewish history.
