Artists' Books at Ricker Library

The Ricker Library of Architecture & Art is home to an ever-growing collection of artists’ books and zines. Artists’ books are expressly designed and executed as works of art, rather than books about art. Often, they take on themes relating to books, readings, and libraries.     Questions of narrative, time, sequentiality and multiplicity, and access frequently enliven the books. Ricker’s collection of several hundred artists’ books include representative samples from the genre, from livres d’artistes to 1960’s conceptual takes on the form; from surrealist, futurist, and constructivist assays, to contemporary zines. The collection’s purpose is primarily pedagogical, and we frequently use these materials in our lively teaching sessions.
