David and Ann Atkins attended the University of Illinois where both earned teaching degrees in the early 1990s. In this interview, they discuss why they chose the University of Illinois, campus life, notable professors, and meeting while living at Stratford and Koinonia houses.
David Bechtel was a student at University of Illinois during the early 1960s and eventually became an assistant dean in charge of men's residences in 1969 before he moved to the undergraduate career center in 1972. Hugh Satterlee served as an administrator in various capacities from the 1960s to 1980s, including Dean of Students. David Hubbard (1914-2001) was a member of the Class of 1937. He grew up on a farm and earned a BS in Agriculture. He also took a teaching certificate and completed some graduate coursework. David said his family experienced a lot of hardship during the Great Depression.
Raised in Carbondale, Illinois, Debbie Fligor received her bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1991. During her time as a student, Fligor joined the Network Design Office in the Computing Services Office (formerly CITES and now Technology Services) and also worked in network administration for the School of Life Sciences. She continued working for the CSO/CCSO/CITES/Tech Services, and is currently Lead Network Engineer in Tech Services. In this this interview, Fligor describes her childhood and education, as well as her professional path that led her to network engineering.
Dena Julia Polacheck Epstein (1916-2013) was a graduate student in the library school during the late 1930s. Epstein remembers working in the library and doing research on the music publishing industry in mid-19th century Chicago. She also describes her marriage to a fellow student, Morton Epstein, which took place just before he left school to join the war effort.
